For all of our readers requesting more information on Venuz White, we're here to fill you in on her distinctive technique that pays equal respect to composition and process.
White has been compared to Jackson Pollock, in that there is an artistic order to her seemingly random abstract works. While Pollock dripped paint on canvas in a way that many critics called "chaotic," to the artist himself his work was anything but--his medium was intentionally chosen and his compositions were consciously crafted.
In a similar vein, although the aesthetic value of White's work on canvas merits critical acclaim in its own right, it's her manipulation of her medium that really defines White's painting.

For her latest series, "Pequenas historias del amor" ("Little Love Stories," in English)--which was exhibited by Spoon and Leonard Tourné Gallery in our joint show this spring in New York City--White allowed bubbles of acrylic paint to fill vast canvases with vibrant cellular patterns. The result is a carefully curated series of 30 panels, each depicting its own love story about a relative, a lover, or a close friend. You'll have to look closely to trace the outlines of figures in each panel.
In the past, White has placed her canvases atop speakers and allowed musical vibrations to determine the course of the composition.
