Katz devotes his studio time to drawing and documenting shopping malls from his own photographic record and from memory. His process includes digital camera, colored pencils, copious amounts of tape, digital prints, and found pre-printed mailers. His recall of details and physical changes to these mall locations is uncanny and well documented in much of his illustrated work.
In addition to the shopping mall series, Katz continues work on "toilaroids," a series of photographs of public bathrooms accompanied by floor plans and fixture details, that he shares with a large online community.
Katz is currently pursuing a degree in graphic design at SUNY Cobleskill, in upstate New York.
The reception and benefit will take place Thursday, June 7 from 5-9pm at our Soho gallery, located at 463 Broome Street between Greene and Mercer streets.
RSVP appreciated to info@leonard-tourne.com or by phone (212)219-2656.
