GUY DE GONTAUT OPENS AT LEONARD TOURNÉ GALLERY

SONJA EISENBERG'S "AUTUMN" OPENS OCTOBER 5 AT LEONARD TOURNÉ GALLERY

Saturday, September 29, 2012

Leonard Tourné Gallery and Spoon present Autumn, the second in a two part exhibition of the work of painter and Holocaust survivor Sonja Eisenberg. Trained in music and dance at the Juilliard School of Performing Arts, Sonja Eisenberg is a true virtuoso; translating the unparalleled depth of her personal experience into the movement, space, and color of seductively intimate watercolors, delicate yet commanding pastel compositions, and compelling large scale oil works, Eisenberg reminds the viewer of the dynamics of the sublime, and even what is to paint.

Within her gesture there is no falsity; Eisenberg calls herself up to the vocation of painting with the sincerity only an autodidact can know. Unsullied by the artificial posturing of official art discourse, the artist unsurprisingly claims the thought of Lao Tzu in a Taoist philosophy of simplicity, and the self-evident consistency of the natural world as inspiration for her work. Yet, there is nothing primitive here; displaying a sophisticated and instinctual comprehension of composition, each tableau is no less than a triumph, serene yet unbound, passion with consilience.

Born in Berlin in 1926, Sonja Eisenberg lives and works in New York. Eisenberg’s work is represented in the Smithsonian Institute (Washington, D.C.), the Jewish Museum of Art (New York), the official collection of the United Nations (New York), and dozens of additional public and private collections. Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including notable exhibitions in London, Tel Aviv, France, and her native Germany.

The exhibition will be on view at Leonard Tourné Gallery, located at 463 Broome Street (between Greene and Mercer streets) in New York City, from October 5-November 5, 2012. It was curated in partnership with Brooke Lynn McGowan.

BRIT BY COLOMBIAN ARTIST VIANEY OPENS AT LEONARD TOURNÉ GALLERY

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Leonard Tourné Gallery and Spoon invite you to the opening reception of "BRIT" by Colombian artist Vianey, with music by Xander (Sheik 'n' Beik) and Carlos (Low Pitch Orchestra). The exhibition opens at Leonard Tourné Gallery on Thursday, June 14, and will run until Thursday, July 5, before moving to London.

Just in time for the Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic Games, Vianey's "BRIT" is a series of twelve paintings dedicated to British culture--from music to the Monarchy.

Vianey, currently based in New York, is the creator of "COOL ART," a movement described by the artist as a new language in art history that combines pop art and modern contemporary art.

He has collaborated with designer Mario Hernandez to create VIANEY, a line of handbags and leather goods. His work, entitled "Liberty," was chosen to be featured on a postcard commemorating the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York.

Since 2004, Vianey's paintings have been exhibited widely in New York, Florida, and Colombia.

We look forward to seeing you this Thursday.

Opening Reception: Thursday, June 14, from 6 - 9 PM
Location: 463 Broome Street (between Mercer and Greene), New York, NY 10013

"THE ALCHEMY OF COLOR" BY VENUZ WHITE

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Leonard Tourné Gallery and Spoon invite you the opening reception of Colombian artist Venuz White and her first solo exhibition in New York, "The Alchemy of Color." The opening reception will be held this Friday, March 9 from 6:30 to 9:30pm at our Soho location at 463 Broome Street. Music will be provided by Sheik 'N' Beik and the Low Pitch Orchestra.

White, best known for her vibrant, abstract paintings that resemble the cosmos, will be exhibiting two bodies of work, Vaho and Sideral. The Vaho series was created using White's own breath. Blowing pigmented bubbles onto board, White pursued an investigation of color, its movement and its evolution. The work is complemented by Sideral, which combines videos and lightboxes that further White's study of color.

Together the works form a compilation of new pictorial techniques based largely on the origin of the universe and its creation.

White’s work has been exhibited in San Francisco, Madrid, New York City and El Museo de Arte Moderno in Medellín, Colombia. She received her bachelor of fine arts in 2002 from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia and completed coursework in 1997 at the Art Atelier, University of California, Berkley, and at the Liberal Arts College of Marin, California.

The exhibition at Leonard Tourné Gallery will run from March 8 to March 29. For more information, please call 212-219-2656.
